Our Lady (Pristine)

Our Lady (Pristine) honors the legacy of motherhood. When I was a child, there was a custom in our church on Mother’s Day Sunday to wear a red rose if one’s mother was here on earth and a white rose if one’s mother was in heaven. The labyrinthine structure of the Pristine rose supports feminine words and symbols. The imbedded gold button with embossed crown is flanked by two cherubs, inspired by votive candles to the Virgin Mother. A demure Botticelli’s Venus is stamped into the lower left corner. The collaged plate is the famous Blue Willow pattern, relating a tale of tragic, but immortal, love.
